G&S Technologies partners to help Haitian children in need

Giving kids a lift by shipping thousands of New Missions “shoebox” care packages

G&S Technologies (Virginia, New Jersey), working with sister companies TCI of Alabama and TCI of New York, has partnered with New Missions and Journey Fellowship church (Quinton, VA) to ship care packages called “shoeboxes” to Haitian children in need.  The New Missions annual shoebox drive collects school supplies, hygiene items, toys and other small gifts making a big difference in the lives of Haitian children.

Pastor Jared Harker at Journey Fellowship church said, ““The goal as a church is to bless the children of Haiti and make their lives easier.  This helps them to know Christ and his love by providing these much-needed supplies.  G&S has helped this mission by generously shipping them for us.”

George Newmark of G&S Technologies said, “We are proud to help with this worthy mission giving thousands of Haitian children in need a lift by providing supplies and gifts.”

Annually 12,000 shoebox gifts are collected valued at nearly $500,000.  The gifts are distributed on the ground in Haiti by pastors, educators, and health care workers through the 30 New Missions churches, schools, and clinics on the island of Hispaniola.   Most of Haiti is situated on the western portion of the island which it shares with the Dominican Republic.

Pastor Harker calls the effort a “fun raiser” with the church holding packing parties to put the shoeboxes together (see attached picture).  He said, “This ministry reminds us our mission is far bigger than ourselves and brings us together as a church.”  Arika Taylor a member of the Congregation said, “So much fun! My girls enjoyed doing this!!”

Matt Yount, General Manager at G&S of Virginia, said, “We are thrilled to help these kids.  We also like New Missions is dedicated to education including a trade school.  We share their passion for helping people out of poverty through training that can lead to jobs.”

Mr. Yount goes on to talk about how G&S works locally with the Fix Ministry a Rehabilitation Program for men who have gone through addiction.  The G&S program puts the men to work in the plant, trains them and supports their housing needs.  “Upon successful completion of the program, we offer them a full-time job at G&S,” he says.
